Like his music, Mark Karan’s Buds is an ever-evolving band of fellow travelers in the psychedelic rock realm, always looking for that fleeting ecstatic moment in music. Mark Karan spent 12 years as lead guitarist in Bob Weir’s Ratdog as well as playing in the Other Ones, his own Jemimah Puddleduck, and Dylan all-star jam band Ghosts of Electricity. On rare occasion he assembles the Buds. This time Karan is joined by Buds Danny Eisenberg (Mother Hips, Ryan Adams) on vocals and Hammond B-3 organ and bassist-singer Bob Gross (Jemimah Puddleduck), plus drummer John Hanes and a surprise guest or two. Karan has long been an Ashkenaz supporter, participating in fundraisers for the community center as well as presenting his various bands. His 2009 solo album, “Walk Through the Fire,” includes songs that reflect on his two-year battle with cancer. Tonight’s show features a few favorites, originals, and new songs from his current recording project.
