Event Details

The 2012 Mariners Award honors the Founders and Transformative Leaders
of the Museum's first 50 years.

On Thursday, October 4, 2012, a Mariners Award Luncheon will be held in the Museum's Long Reach Hall beginning at noon to honor 16 individuals whose efforts and contributions were instrumental in establishing the Museum and/or in leading in the transformation of the Museum into the world-class institution it is today.

The guest speaker for the luncheon will be Eliot Cutler who was an independent candidate in the 2010 Maine gubernatorial race finishing second in a field of five.

Born and raised in Bangor, Maine, Cutler graduated from Harvard College and later earned a degree from Georgetown Law.

He served as Associate Director for Natural Resources, Energy and Science in the Office of Management and Budget in the Carter administration, and was the principal White House official for energy. Cutler began his career as a legislative assistant to Senator Edmund Muskie of Maine, helping craft the Clean Water Act and the Clean Air Act.

He was a founding partner of Cutler & Stanfield LLP, which became the second largest environmental law firm in the country, eventually merging that practice with international firm Akin Gump in 2000.[5]

Cutler resides in Cape Elizabeth with his wife, Melanie Stewart Cutler. They have three adult children.
