CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF OUR FOOD SUPPLY? JOIN US!
Millions of people around the world will once again March Against Monsanto, on May 24, 2014, calling for a labeling of GMO foods and greater corporate accountability within our food supply. Currently, marches will occur on six continents, in 52 countries, with events in over 400 cities, including here in the Tampa Bay area.
An event in Tampa will be held at the Stained Market Place located at 2106 E 15th Avenue in Ybor City with free parking on site. Activities begin at 9:00am with a non-GMO market, community groups, kid friendly events and speakers. The march starts at noon.
Long term, independent, peer reviewed studies were not conducted before GMOs were introduced for human or animal consumption. Recent independent studies have revealed severely damaged organs in animals fed GM food. Genetically engineered foods must urgently become our nation's top food safety priority. GMOs have been totally or partially banned in 26 countries, and 64 countries around the world require labeling of genetically engineered foods. When polled, over 90% of Americans want GMOs labeled. Unlike most other developed countries, the U.S., as a whole, has no laws requiring labeling of genetically engineered foods. However, individual states such as Vermont, Connecticut and Maine have recently passed laws and 26 other states are pursuing laws. Monsanto has spent hundreds of millions of dollars to obstruct all labeling attempts. In the USA, the revolving door between Monsanto employees, government positions, and regulatory authorities has led to key Monsanto figures occupying positions of power at the FDA and EPA.
