Come and enjoy a fun and thoughtful 2 hour workshop and cultivate a story based on personal experience into a performance. This workshop is a great introduction for beginner storytellers into the art-from of storytelling. In this workshop you will begin to learn how storytelling differs from theater, stand up, or twisting balloon animals. You will explore the art of storytelling through guided sense memory, writing, performance, individual and group exercises.

massmouth, inc.

massmouth works to renew the timeless art of storytelling in Massachusetts by engaging a new generation of tellers and listeners through education, live performance and social media.

What is a Story Slam?  A story slam is a contest of stories by known and undiscovered talent. Themes are posted on our events pages (www.massmouth.com) and story slammers sign up on the night to tell a 5-minute short story on the evening's theme. Ten names will be drawn at random from a box. A team of 5 volunteer judges - interested amateurs, storytellers, theater people and members of the audience who love stories - evaluate how well each story is told, how well it is constructed, how well the story explores, connects and/or reveals some truth about the theme and, how well it honors the time limit. The 2 highest-scoring tellers and a third selected by the audience are awarded prizes and an opportunity to perform at the "BigMouthOff" at the end of the slam season (Sept - April).
