Learning Objectives

  • Understand the environment and differentiators of the MapR distribution for Apache Hadoop
  • Understand MapReduce and MapR Lockless Storage Services (MapR-FS)
  • Verify system requirements for the hardware and operating system
  • Plan, install and configure MapR clusters, including High Availability (HA)
  • Access MapR clusters, including via standard NFS
  • Use volumes as key management level
  • Monitor clusters via the command line and the MapR Control System
  • Monitor and maintain clusters for health and peak performance
  • Manage nodes through the life cycle of a cluster
  • Optimize topologies and volumes to control data placement on clusters
  • Manage access to data by configuring users, groups, and quotas
  • Tune clusters for best performance
  • Manage the safety, stability, and ease of deployment of data through use of Volumes, Snapshots and Mirrors

Target Audience

This course targets IT administrators and operators with at least basic Linux system administration experience.  Prior Hadoop experience is not required.

  • Disaster Recovery

Lab Requirements

Each student should bring their own laptop.

Course Length

3 day (8 hours each) of lecture, instructor demo, and hands-on lab exercises.


MapR will provide a light breakfast, lunch and afternoon coffee for each day of the class. 

Cancellation & Reschedule Policy

Cancellation requests from the student must be recieved at least 10 business days prior to the start of class to be eligible for a refund. If preferred, MapR at our discretion, can transfer your registration to a future class of equal value.

Students who fail to cancel within 10 business days and/or do not attend the class, will not receive a refund and will be charged the full amount.

MapR will review class enrollments at least 2 weeks prior to the class start date. In the case of low enrollment, classes may be cancelled or rescheduled at any time at our discretion. In the event a class is cancelled, MapR will transfer your registration to another class of equal value or refund your fee in full. MapR is not responsible for non-refundable travel or other expenses incurred by the student.
