On Thursday, September 6, join the NYC Citizen Corps Council, NYC Office of Emergency Management (OEM), and fellow NYC volunteers to kick-off National Preparedness Month in Manhattan. Like in years past, it is a chance to spend some time alongside fellow NYC volunteers showcasing what you do.
The NYC Citizen Corps Council is asking interested New Yorkers to sign up and spend a few hours at one of the locations below educating New Yorkers about emergency preparedness and volunteerism.
In 2011, 150 volunteers gave out more than 120,000 preparedness guides throughout the five boroughs during National Preparedness Month Kick-Off Events.

National Preparedness Month is a nationwide campaign to promote emergency preparedness and encourage volunteerism.
In New York City every September, the NYC Office of Emergency Management and the NYC Citizen Corps Council bring together disaster and volunteer organizations to distribute information, host demonstrations, lead preparedness presentations, and educate fellow New Yorkers about emergency preparedness.
