Malibu Rocks is the first in an occasional summer concert series sponsored by the Scott Wells Memorial Fund to “Celebrate Summer – Celebrate Life”. The Sat. July 19 event, which will take place 6:30 PM in the MJCS amphitheater (24855 PCH) is open to the entire community and will feature performances by Cantor Marcelo Gindlin, Lenny Goldsmith & Friends, Jared Weinstock, Steph Wells, The Berger Sanchez Project, and surprise guests. SWMF was created in memory of 35 year old Scott Wells, who died June 29, 2012 following a two year battle with colon cancer. “Scott was a passionate filmmaker and musician with a beautiful soul”, according to his mother Lori Gray who says “the goal of the Scott Wells Memorial Fund is to promote musicians, filmmakers, poets and artists by providing a venue and funding for these events.” The SWMF also awards an annual prize to a student filmmaker at UCSB (where Scott received his degree in film studies) called the “Scott Wells Golden Reel Award”. As for the upcoming July 19 concert; “We’re hoping the community really turns out for this and would love to hear from anyone who would like to participate in future events” says to Lori Gray who can be contacted via email@example.com.
