Malibu Creek Aquatic Restoration
Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area
Help preserve Malibu Creek! An invasive species of crayfish is wreaking havoc on local habitat. The non-native crayfish eats native insects, amphibians and fish, degrading the native ecosystem. As part of its work throughout the Santa Monica Mountains, Mountains Restoration Trust works every week when possible to restore Malibu Creek.
REGISTER & EMAIL CONFIRM: Registration is required. Registered volunteers receive an email confirmation with details. Please note work may be cancelled due to weather and other conditions. (Your email confirmation will include more information on cancellation updates.)
If a particular date is not listed in the dropdown menu we are either not working on that date or our volunteer quoata has already been filled.
TIME: We estimate that the time it will take is around 1.5-2.5 hours. Occasionally, it make take a bit longer. If this is the case, please let us know on the day of the event that you have time constraints and we will work around it.
PARKING: Parking is available in the dirt parking lot at Piuma and Las Virgenes. If the dirt parking lot is full, ask Ben or Nick at the site for a parking pass, which lets you park on the shoulder of Piuma Road. Should you need a physical address for Tapia Park, use 844 N. Las Virgenes Rd. Calabasas, CA (please note that although this address is in the general area we will be working, it is NOT the address for the parking lot where we will be meeting.) Please make sure to get a pass, as you will receive a ticket if no parking pass is displayed.
SPECIAL GROUP ACTIVITY: This is a great event for Scout troops, service organizations, worship congregations, and other such groups. Email us to set up a special day & time that suits your needs: firstname.lastname@example.org.
FAMILIES WITH SMALL CHILDREN: We may have more slots available if you're bringing small children. Please contact us: email email@example.com.
Prepare to get muddy and have fun! Thank you for your interest!
