WHUT, Howard University Television, invites you a panel discussion and film screening entitled, "Women Trailblazers at Howard University"  This event is part of the outreach initiative preceding the national  premier of  "MAKERS: Women Who Make America,” an unprecedented digital video and broadcast initiative. Produced by filmmakers, and funded by AOL and Simple. The multi-platform initiative aims to become not only the largest but also the most dynamic collection of women’s stories ever assembled. Makers is a landmark and digital broadcasting video initiative from AOL and PBS, featuring women whose contributions shape the world in which we live.

 

WHUT will be hosting a panel discussion for "Howard Makers".  These are a group of dynamic local leaders in the Howard University community who have impacted and played a role in shaping the public. Howard Makers discussion panel awards an opportunity to share conversation and the opportunity to inspire and be inspired by other local makers.

 

This event will take place at WHUT’s  Studio  on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 from 6-8p.m. with a reception to follow allowing participants to network, build, and further extend long-term partnerships and relationships supporting local schools and communities. Howard University Television went on the air November 17, 1980 as WHMM. The station’s debut received considerable local and national attention as it was the first and only Public Broadcasting Station (PBS) member station licensed to and operated by a predominantly African-American institution, historic Howard University, Washington, DC.

The station’s signal reaches over 2 million households in the greater Washington metro area. WHUT has thousands of loyal viewers and donors who tune daily to its unique mix of PBS series such as NOVA, The American Experience, Sesame Street, and its original productions on local and national topics. Specials also highlight special events and renown speakers at Howard University, such as Cornel West, Toni Morrison and Nobel Laureate Ivar Giaever. WHUT airs more than 3,500 hours of public affairs and educational programming each year. WHUT has won 13 Emmys, and numerous other awards such as the Telly, Aurora, and Cine Golden Eagle.
