Three short presentations then panel discussions around approaches to making money from making.
After the great launch event in June, we're now programming a series of three lunchtime panel, reflecting key issues in the making community.
The first is MAKERS' MONEY: THE BUSINESS OF MAKING, featuring a panel including:
Mark Champkins, Concentrate Design
As well as designing and producing his own range of products, Mark is currently Inventor-in-Residence at the Science Museum, a reluctant star of BBC's Dragon's Den and the author of The Big Book of Celebrity Inventions (available at a good bookshop near you!).
Jane ní Dhulchaointigh, sugru
Jane is the inventor of the new air-curing rubber for repairing and making, sugru.
Her goal is to encourage more people to take a creative DIY approach to their everyday, and so along with creating this new material, her approach has been to develop a platform where users inspire each other. She is now CEO of a young, fast growing manufacturing business based in London, with customers in 76 countries, and sugru has an impressive fan base including TIME Magazine, who listed it alongside the iPad as one of the top 50 inventions of 2010.
Makers is a manufacturing and product design agency that assists independent designers and innovators to bring products to market using UK manufacturers. Christopher founded Makers to take advantage of opportunities to provide support to other designers, using the network of manufacturers and the product development skills he gained through running Pli Design Ltd. Since January 2011, Makers has brought six new products to market.
We're thrilled to be able to host this event in the Crafts Council Education Space. The space has limited capacity, so do sign up to make sure you get a place.
Please bring your own lunch with you! There are lots of sandwich shops in the Angel area, and not providing catering helps us to keep the event free.
Hope to see you then.
