As a regular user of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, or Outlook, do you ever think to yourself "this repetitive task is so easy that a computer could do it"? If so, then this is the class for you, because the answer is "YES!".
Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) is a simple programming language that was designed to automate interaction with Microsoft Office applications. A working knowledge of VBA enables you to complete lengthy, repetitive tasks instantly.
The class is designed to teach you how to use VBA with three specific, real-world examples, and to empower you to teach yourself even more down the road. The class assumes that you have no programming experience whatsoever, and will also offer a general introduction to basic programming concepts such as variables and functions.
All you need to bring is a computer with Excel, which we'll use to live-code three examples.
Basic programming concepts: variables, functions, and objects
Writing your first line of working code
-Using named ranges to read and write massive amounts of data
-Dynamically changing a cell's color based on its value by using an IF test
-Running 1,000 different scenarios using a WHILE loop
