What to Make?

CHECK OUT INSPIRATION HERE & ON OUR PINTEREST BOARD!

You can make whatever you like as long as it is appropriate as a holiday gift for less privileged individuals or families. We recommend toys since we are collaborating with Toys for Tots, and if you decide to do so, see below for guidelines on handmade toys. You can make toys, clothes or jewelry, cards, electronics, educational items, or anything you feel inspired to make! Unleash your creativity!

BYOM:

This event is 'Bring Your Own Materials'. Because you will have the flexibility to make whatever you want however you would like, we suggest bringing your own materials for the project.

Get Support & Sponsorship from Your Community:

If you want to get friends or families to sponsor you for the materials for the event,

you can use CrowdTilt (see example)

OR you can have them purchase a gift card from Joann's here .

TAX WRITE-OFF: For your materials contribution, you can get a tax-write off since the items will be donated to charity. We will have forms for you and any of your contributors at the event.

Plan on Toy Making? Please read the guidelines:

"6.9 Homemade Toys. Of growing concern, is the donation of homemade toys, and whether or not Toys for Tots will continue to accept such toys, even though they may not have undergone the new testing process required for toys. The Foundation is taking the position that since homemade toymakers are not producing toys for the purposes of making a profit and have no reason to cut corners to increase profit margins or reduce their inventory, and that the toys are generally safe with minimal moving parts that could cause injury, that we will continue to accept homemade toys.  In doing so, there are three layers of safety that must be in place to ensure this policy can continue.

  •  Layer One: Toy makers must understand the requirement that homemade toys be safe (no small parts; rounded edges; lead-free paint; etc.);
  • Layer Two: Toys for Tots coordinators (and their volunteer assistants) must take steps to ensure the makers are informed of the Layer One requirement, carefully inspect homemade toys when they are donated, AND make every effort to distribute such toys appropriately; and
  • Layer Three: Parents must ensure that any toy given to them to, in turn, present to their child, must be age appropriate." [Guidelines from: Toys for Tots]

Toy or Item Drop-Off?

If you only have time to drop-off a toy or gift, feel free to stop by and drop off items. If you plan to stay for longer, we will ask you to purchase a ticket so that we can manage our capacity. The drop-off HOURS will be 11am-5pm (same as the event).
