M-A PARENT EDUCATION SERIES
“The Perseverance Process: Strategies for Strengthening Academic Motivation and Persistence"
Kent Pekel, Ed.D., President and CEO of the Search Institute
Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2014, 7:00-9:00 p.m.
M-A Performing Arts Center (PAC)
Perseverance ("grit") is a better predictor of students' future academic achievement than IQ or SAT scores. How can your help your teen build this important character skill?
Psychologist Laurence Steinberg drew the following conclusion from his study of American teenagers:
"The achievement problem we face in this country is not due to a drop in the intelligence or basic intellectual ability of our children, but to a widespread decline in children’s interest in education and in their motivation to achieve in the classroom; it is a problem of attitude and effort, not ability."
In this engaging and informative presentation, Dr. Kent Pekel describes Search Institute's new resource called the "Perseverance Process." The process translates the research on motivation and persistence into clear and actionable strategies. Search is well-known for its work in creating the Developmental Assets(TM) used by more than 4 million teens around the world.
