Lunch and Learn with Eileen Rockefeller:
"Being a Rockefeller, Becoming Myself"
Wednesday, October 2, 2013
Eileen Rockefeller is the first woman in her family to write a memoir and family history. A native of New York City, she is a great granddaughter of John D. Rockefeller Sr. and daughter of David and Peggy Rockefeller.
Being a Rockefeller, Becoming Myself is about her search for belonging in one of America’s best known, business and philanthropic families. Her authentic and often humorous stories will inspire others to find their own place of belonging. As a venture philanthropist, Eileen has devoted her life to building the fields of mind/body health and social/emotional learning, and has catalyzed innovations in conservation and nursing. In 1983, she founded the Institute for the Advancement of Health, which pioneered the promotion of scientific acceptance of the connections between mind and body in health and disease. In 1990, she co-founded The Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning (CASEL) with Daniel Goleman, author of Emotional Intelligence, which launched SEL programs into American public schools in every state and elsewhere around the world.
Eileen is deeply devoted to her family, including her husband Paul, of 32 years, and their two young adult sons. Eileen is a published poet. She is also passionate about friendships and nature. She is a life-long rider and competitive carriage horse driver, and loves to garden, cook, hike, sail and cross-country ski.
