Lunch & Learn: Experience the Team-Based Learning - Presented by the CTL
Friday, October 26, 2012 from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM (CDT)
San Francisco, California
London, United Kingdom
Join us for a workshop on Team-Based Learning led by The Center for Teaching and Learning.
You may have heard of, or experimented with, students working together on various learning activities inside or outside the classroom—this is not what is meant by Team-Based Learning (TBL). TBL is a specific model that uses rapid assessment of both individuals and groups to customize what is addressed in the classroom, and uses planned group interaction to ensure wide participation with the goal of broad understanding and opportunity to apply concepts. In addition to increasing student engagement and interest, the ability to determine what specific content needs to be addressed for each class of students can allow for more efficient use of time and opportunity for more interaction/practice with students. TBL can make use of technologies, or can be done with something as simple as a brief paper assessment (both will be demonstrated).
This session will provide instruction on the core concepts of TBL, and also allow you to experience TBL from a student perspective, and then discuss the options for implementation (whether for selected class topics or for an entire course).
Lunch will be provided. Be sure to add to your calendar by selecting Add to My Calendar on the right.
