You don’t have to be a musician to benefit from music therapy. Music therapy uses music within a healing setting to address a person’s physical, emotional, cognitive and social needs. VCU Massey Cancer Center invites all cancer patients, survivors and caregivers to join board certified music therapist Melissa L. Owens at our Stony Point location for a discussion on music therapy. Participants will enjoy a brief overview of music therapy and how it is used in the medical setting, and will be able to view and have hands-on experience with instruments and learn how adaptations are used with patients throughout their treatment. After the presentation, there will be time for questions and discussion with the instructor and fellow participants.
