Movie- The Fruit Hunters
A thrilling journey through nature, commerce and adventure, The Fruit Hunters is a cinematic odyssey that takes viewers from the dawn of humanity to the cutting of edge of modern agriculture - a film that will change not just the way we look at we eat, but what it means to be human.
You can find them deep in the jungles of Borneo, in the hills of Umbria and perhaps even in your own backyard. THE FRUIT HUNTERS travels across culture, history and geography to show how intertwined we are with the fruits we eat. The ranks of the fruit-obsessed include adventurers, scientists, fruit detectives and even movie star Bill Pullman, fruit hunters dedicating themselves to searching for and saving rare and exotic fruit, and to creating a Garden of Eden in a world increasingly dominated by industrialized monoculture. A cinematic odyssey through nature and commerce, THE FRUIT HUNTERS will change not only the way we look at what we eat but how we view our relationship to the natural world.
A vegan brunch about fruit, and the first menu item is eggs? Ha, at Love & Vegetables, we love to take our favorite foods (some of them from before we were vegan) and adapt them to our new lifestyle including local fruits. These ‘eggs’ are made using our favorite local drupe (a fruit with a hard stony covering), The Coconut: milked, shaped, and mixed with black sea salt, then filled with house-made spicy mustard aioli and smoked paprika.
Mini Quiche Muffins
Eggs again? Not on this vegan brunch menu, but we do love making yummy and delicious vegan brunch options, so we’re combining chickpea flour with sun-dried tomatoes, sauteed garlic, and our own Herbs De Miami - a collection of fresh herbs from our favorite Miami farms. This amazing mixture is carefully spooned into mini muffin pans and baked to golden-brown perfection!
Waffles with Local Fruit Compote
We love waffles, and by love, we mean LOVE! We almost called our pop-up “Waffles and Vegetables,” but Love always wins in the end -- even against Waffles. So we’re taking the waffles to the next level by decreasing the processed sugar, increasing the flavour, adding vegan chocolate chips and topping it off with some yummy local fruit compote.
Fresh Green Salad with Starfruit Dressing
When mangoes go out of season, Starfruit reigns supreme. They are the perfect balance between sweet and sour, and when blended with a just a little salt, they make a one-step, one-ingredient, oil-free salad dressing. This dressing will be mixed with fresh organic greens, shaved red onions, dried fruits, sprouts, and activated nuts.
Peaches and Mamey are joining forces to create a smooth pink cobbler like no other. We love Mamey and we love that it’s in season and abundant this year. This pink fleshy stone fruit pairs perfectly with fresh peaches to add texture to this beautiful baked cobbler. Cinnamon and sugar are going to make an appearance, along with some fresh herbs to change this classic sweet dessert into a badass brunch item!
Chef Avril loves Doritos, but since going on down to VeganVille, she hasn’t been able to enjoy her favorite snack-- that is until she spent countless nights, umpteen hours, and insane amount of nutritional yeast in her underground kitchen laboratory to make a spice mix that is vegan, delicious, and “tastes like the real thing.” She may be hyped up from all the B vitamins found in Nutritional Yeast, but she knows a flavorful popcorn when she sees it. Yum!
