The Fridge presents a concert from three hip hop greats coming out of the DMV today – rising star Locke Kaushal plus DC’s famed duo Beyond Modern and headliner DDm from Baltimore.
See these talents perform surrounded by three art shows including skateboard art from 60 international artists and a 10,000 sticker combo wall in this Eastern Market graffiti gallery.
About DDm (LISTEN)
During a time when popular music has been reduced to mostly formula and process, Emmanuel Moss a.k.a. DDm, effortlessly breaks that mold. The Baltimore native, who made his name on the local battle rap circuit, manages to straddle the fence between cool kid and rebel with a charming accessibility. From street anthems, to cyphers, to catchy, fun tracks, he shows versatility on everything he releases. Building a strong buzz in the DMV, the Baltimore native has performed in New York, San Francisco, Montreal, and Atlanta. His single 'Click Pow' featuring M.I.A. protege Rye Rye was received well by critics and clubs alike. After being featured in several publications such as Spin Magazine, Complex etc., the self proclaimed 'Killer Queen' is gearing up to release his EP 'Grand Prize'.
About Beyond Modern (LISTEN)
Mick Marx and Sur Jazz were solo hip-hop artists when the duo first decided to fuse their talents in 2009. The lyricist and aspiring audio engineer released The Definition: Epic, their first fulllength album featuring original production under the moniker sim-plex in 2010. The nascent success of these two young artists was a sound that augured something bigger, something inventive. That “something” emerged as Rebellion EP (2011), the duo’s first ep as Beyond Modern, pulling from a range of iconic influences old and new like The Neptunes, Miles Davis, Prince, and Sade.
About Locke Kaushal (LISTEN)
Locke Kaushal is a Virginia bred emcee who released his first mixtape in 2010 The Prologue: The Story Before the Story under the Dream Out Loud imprint. In 2011, he released A Drunken Mans Words produced by DJ LES (Illmatic, It Was Written, Big Willie Style, Press Play). Locke has opened for acts such as Meek Mill, Wale and Black Cobain and performed at Trillecto in August 2012. In October, he was featured as an up and coming artist on MTV’s RapFix Live hosted by Sway.
