Mike has been involved with offering web services since 1995. Prior to specializing in web design and search consulting in 2001, Mike was a principal in a family owned & operated retail business for over 30 years.
Like all small business owners attempting to market to a fragmented clientele, he was continually frustrated by the barriers & costs imposed by the advertising options available. Shortly after Google Maps was released in 2004 he threw out his 9 Yellow Page books and started focusing on Local Search.
Mike presents nationally at search conferences & contributes columns to Search Engine Land. During the week, you can find him at his blog, Understanding Google Maps and Local Search, where he writes about local search and its impact on the business community.
Mary has been involved in all aspects of SEO since 2003 and has always been intrigued by Local Search. With a background as a serial entrepreneur, she always tries to approach Local Search and Internet Marketing in a practical way and from a small business owner's perspective. Mary is an SEO practitioner and consultant and speaks frequently on Local Search at industry conferences - SES, SMX, Searchfest, OMS. She's conducted intensive trainings on Local Search for Search Engine Strategies, Planet Ocean, Search Engine Workshops, the Denver Chamber of Commerce, and for her clients and the clients of other agencies. She blogs at Optimized!
John is Director of SEO & Social Media for Advance Digital, parent company of syracuse.com as well as a 11 other local sites across the U.S. He is a regular speaker at national search conferences, is a published author on the topic of SEO and co-hosts the popular SEO 101 radio show on WebmasterRadio.fm. A first generation SEO of more than 12 years, John has worked both on the in-house and agency sides of SEO with clients ranging from Turner Broadcasting to Cotton Inc. and the Miami Herald. His favorite part of SEO ... Teaching it.
Joel has worked with Google's Local & Geo products since 2005 where he started as a community manager for Google Maps and the Google Maps API. Since then, he's managed teams in Consumer Operations at Google for SketchUp, Maps, Local and Places for business, which are instrumental in maintaining help and educational content, developing user communities, and providing support while gathering user feedback to improve and refine products.
Lauren Hufnal is a Bing Evangelist at Microsoft, based in New York City. She is responsible for communicating the value and effectiveness of Bing and adCenter through engagement with premium advertisers, field partners and industry influentials.
Previously at Microsoft, Lauren was an Account Executive on the Search Agency Sales team, where she focused on maintaining relationships with top SEMs, while driving revenue growth across her portfolio. She also spent time at Microsoft as a Search Analytics Manager in the Pharmaceutical/CPG vertical, and as a Sr. Search Account Manager, aligned to premium advertisers and agencies.
After starting her career in print media at GDAC, Lauren made the switch to online advertising in 1999. She worked on search, display and email campaigns at Philadelphia agencies i-frontier (now Razorfish) and IIG (now Whitman Hart), as well as Digitas NYC.
Lauren is a University of Richmond alum, graduating with a Business Administration/Marketing major and Studio Art minor. Outside of work, she enjoys playing tennis, running in Central Park, and interior design.
Lauren recently spoke at SIS Park City, SES NYC & SF, DTCP Boston, in addition to performing Bing demos in the Microsoft Technology Center at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.
David is the President & CEO of GetListed.org, in addition to running his own Portland-based search engine consulting business. He's a Search Engine Land columnist and a frequent speaker at the SMX, SES, and Kelsey Group conference series.
