An exciting two-hour guided bus tour, Local Historic Districts of South Bend Heritage Tour is an experience of the authentic history and development of the neighborhoods with a sub theme on prominent individuals of the past and a second sub theme on national architectural trends.
Nine Local Historic Districts on the Heritage Tour include: West North Shore, Riverside Drive, Chapin Park, North Saint Joseph Street/River Bend, Taylor's Field, Edgewater Place, Lincoln Way East, and East Wayne Street.
Each of the nine Local Historic Districts has contributed to the development of South Bend in a different way. We are proud of these neighborhoods and are proud of the neighbors that have been such great stewards of their homes.
As a bonus, we have included select Local Historic Landmarks near Downtown South Bend along this Heritage Tour.
Load Tim's Tours bus in Downtown South Bend* - Bus will travel the first five neighborhoods before stopping Downtown for a brief intermission - Final four neighborhoods after intermission - Bus will unload at same site of pick up. *Bus pickup/dropoff site is near the corner of West Washington/Michigan in Downtown South Bend near 1st Source Bank/Double Tree.

Historic Preservation Commission of South Bend & St. Joseph County
Established in 1973, Historic Preservation Commission of South Bend & St. Joseph County is celebrating 40 years! A St. Joseph County department, the primary function of the Commission is to identify buildings, structures, sites and objects, which are architecturally or historically significant.The Commission was also granted authority to draft preservation guidelines and plans, advise other agencies on matters concerning historic sites and structures, and assist and educate the public. The Commission's jurisdiction includes the City of South Bend and the unincorporated areas of Saint Joseph County.
