You are cordially invited to the Gulf of Maine marine educators’ event of the year - GOMMEA's Annual Meeting! This year’s event is a Lobster Bake & Open House at the beautiful Seacoast Science Center in Rye, NH. A complete lobster dinner, a beautiful seaside venue and twilight tidepooling at the Seacoast Science Center are just a few of the highlights.
The first 20 people to register will receive a gift from the SSC: Mythbuster kits. Here's what we have lined up:
4:30 Educators Open House: Raffles, discounts on field trips and give-aways from: Blue Ocean Society, Gundalow Company, NH Sea Grant, Maine Math and Science Alliance, Seacoast Science Center, Great Bay Discovery Center, Virtual Learning Academy, Touch Tanks for Kids, Close Encounters, Cornerstones of Science, and Shoals Marine Lab, Friends of Casco Bay and more . The SSC will extend a 20% discount in our store - a great opportunity to purchase classroom resources. This part of the evening is sposored by People's United Bank.
5:30 Seaside cocktail hour (bring your own adult beverages) and GOMMEA Annual Meeting (15 minutes): We will raffle off a "Lobstah Rockah" donated by Sea Rose Traps and a Blue Lobster Reduction Woodcut Print donated by Chick Family Ink. And, the most entertaining and briefest annual meeting you've ever attended.
6:15 Lobster Bake by Fosters Catering. Choice of entree: Lobster, Chicken. or Vegetarian dinner, plus New England Clam Chowder, Freshly-dug Maine Clams, Cultivated Mussels, Succulent Corn on the Cob, Roast Red Potatoes, and Blueberry Crumb Cake.
7:30 Twilight Tidepooling. We’ll don headlamps and take in the beauty of dusk at the coast while we explore the rocky shore.
8:15 Movie. The historic and action-packed 40-minute film, Around Cape Horn will be shown on three large screens in the Learning Studio. With surround sound as well, you will be immersed in the sailing adventures of Captain Irving Johnson.
