Associated with the Bang Gang 12 Inches label, Bag Raiders are an Australian electro duo who scored a breakout hit in 2007 with "Fun Punch." Founded in 2005 in Sydney, the duo is comprised of Chris Stracey and Jack Glass. They made their production debut in 2007 with The Bag Raiders EP on Bang Gang 12 Inches. Later licensed by Fool's Gold for American release, the EP includes club favorite "Fun Punch," a breakout hit for the duo that was licensed for numerous compilations and DJ mix albums, most prominently Ministry of Sound Australia's The 2008 Annual (2007). Subsequent Bag Raiders EPs released on Bang Gang 12 Inches include Bag Raiders Remixed (2008), Turbo Love (2008), and Turbo Love Remixes (2009).
Bag Raiders initially made their mark as remixers, working with Sneaky Sound System, Lost Valentinos, Muscles, Midnight Juggernauts, Kid Sister, Cut Copy, and ZZZ, among others. Their remix of K.I.M.'s "By the Time They Reach You" was included on her full-length album System Breakdown (2006) and later featured on Adam Freeland's mix album Global Underground: Mexico City (2007). Bag Raiders are also known for their live performances. They toured Australia in 2008 as part of the Parklife festival. As a DJ tandem, Bag Raiders mixed the second disc of the Australian electro compilation FBI: It's the Beat (2007). They released their first album, Bag Raiders, for Modular in late 2010.
Bag Raiders are in the midst of recording a long-awaited, upcoming album; the band's first full-length release since their 2010 self-titled debut. In the meantime they've released working on an EP entitled Nairobi/Savannah to hold their fans over. On the EP's lead single, "Nairobi," the pair take their ornate electro-pop sound and deconstruct it for the dance floor. With marimba melodies that soar atop nimble conga rhythms, cowbells, and a funky, relentless guitar riff, the track brings much-needed personality to the tech-house palette. While fans should expect a more embellished strain of radio-ready electronic pop from their forthcoming release, "Nairobi" and it's club-ready follow-up "Savannah" are equally powerful servings of worldly modern disco. Nairobi/Savannah is was released on July 8th via Modular Recordings and features remixes by London booty bass maestro Zombie Disco Squad and Melbourne favorite Roland Tings.
