The Kellogg Alumni Club of New York

invites you to participate in a

Lifestyle, Health & Fitness Hike

Please join us for a hike along Claudius Smith's Rock Loop in Rockland County. Throughout the excursion, you'll have an opportunity to engage with discussion leaders who can raise awareness and answer questions about life issues that challenge modern professionals. Group leaders will be:

Marina de la Torre

Marina de la Torre (KSM'06) is a health & wellness coach and the founder of healthfulQuest™. A graduate of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, she blends nutrition theory with practical and effective coaching techniques to help clients become physically fit and emotionally balanced. To learn more about Marina, click here.

Hermann Mazard

Hermann Mazard (KSM'96) is an avid hiker, cyclist and outsdoorsman. A former Boy Scout and member of numerous outdoor clubs, he is familiar with the trails at Harriman State Park. This is his solo-leading debut for a hiking expedition but what he lacks in experience, he more than makes up for in enthusiasm. To learn more about Hermann, click here.

The cost to attend is $69 ($49 hike only, no transportation) for tickets purchased by Thursday, June 7th. The fee increases by $15 for tickets purchased within three (3) days of the trip. Early purchase is encouraged and appreciated. Maximum: 40 people.

How Will We Communicate. When you sign up, you will be asked to provide your mobile number which we will use to enroll you in a group texting network. We encourage you to install the GroupMe app as soon as you register or even before.

Where We're Going. Upon entering Harriman State Park, we'll start along the Ramapo-Dunderberg Trail and proceed along the Kakiat Trail (triple white blazes) to the foot of Dater Mountain. We'll proceed to Almost Perpendicular, whose panoramic views are regarded amongst the best in New York State. We'll then transfer to the Blue Disc Trail (blue dot on white blazes) and traverse Pound Mountain. From there, we'll proceed along the Tuxedo Mount Ivy Nature Trail (red blazes) towards Claudius Smith's Rock, a dramatic cliff with a west facing view. After climbing Big Pine Hill, we'll re-connect with the Ramapo-Dunderberg Train and return to our starting point.

What more Do I Need to Know. This 6.2 mile hike is rated moderate with a few strenuous climbs. Total hiking time is four (4) hours including a 30 minute lunch and plenty of stops for pictures.

When Will We Get Back. We estimate the hike will end between 3:00 pm and 3:30 pm depending on the pace. This gives us plenty of time to walk back to the Tuxedo Station to catch a 4:23 pm train to Penn Station.

04:23 pm  Leave Tuxedo Station
05:21 pm   Arrive Secaucus Junction
05:43 pm Arrive NY Penn Station

What The Club Will Provide. Your registration fee includes coffee & bagels at Penn Station, round trip transportation and a survival pack containing a boxed lunch, snacks, nutrition bars and a liter of bottled water.

What Every Hiker Should Bring. All you need are warm clothes, a hat, sun-block, comfortable shoes, a camera, a friendly smile & a sense of adventure. If you have more questions, please feel free to contact Hermann Mazard (KSM'96).
