On the weekend of August 15-17, 2014, BodyImage4Justice will host our annual LGBTQ Health and Wellness Weekend in Boston, at the Max Mutchnick Campus Center at Emerson College in downtown Boston on Saturday and at the Holmes Sports Center at Simmons College near Fenway Park and the Longwood Medical Area. At this event, we’ll connect members of the LGBTQ community and their friends with resources and information to support and improve health and well-being. The theme for this year’s event is LGBTQ Athletes and Sports. In keeping with this theme, we are proud to have Fallon Fox as our Keynote Speaker on Saturday morning. Ms. Fox will share her story as the first openly transgender fighter in competitive Mixed Martial Arts history, which is sure to be an inspiration to our attendees. The weekend features hands-on classes and demonstrations, workshops and panel discussions on health, wellness, sports, and fitness topics, community merchants and organizations, good food, and more!
The Weekend's activities begin on Friday evening, August 15th from 6:00 to 8:30 pm, with the BodyImage4Justice Awards Dinner at SEIU, 26 West Street, Boston, MA. BodyImage4Justice will honor two Champions of LGBTQ Health and Wellness: Mike's Fitness in Jamaica Plain and transgender elder, activist, and pioneer Rev. Louis Mitchell. The Dinner will be catered by Norma Rosario of Norma's Catering in Roxbury, MA, offering a menu of delicious vegetarian/vegan and meat dishes with a Puerto Rican flair. Dinner tickets are discounted when you also buy tickets for the Wellness Weekend.
Saturday's events at the Max Mutchnick Campus Center at Emerson College run from 8:30 am to 6:00 pm. The day will begin with an energizing movement session, followed by our opening Keynote speech by Fallon Fox and an inspirational address by Carter Brown of Black Transmen, Inc., a lunch break, and a full afternoon of programming with three rounds of workshops on subjects related to health, fitness, and other aspects of wellness.
On Sunday, we will move to the state-of-the-art Holmes Sports Center on the Simmons College Residential Campus for a day of Youth programming, tabling by LGBTQ community organizations and vendors, and movement activities for people of all ages (outdoor activities will be available, weather permitting).
Tickets for this event are available now! You can choose the full Weekend Package including the Friday night Awards Dinner, Saturday's and Sunday's events, or register for only one day or for the Awards Dinner alone. Discounted tickets in all categories are available for young people under 21 years old (please present proof of age at the Registration table).
