Marshall started helping his father with ‘chores’ at Shelburne Farms at the age of 3. By the age of 8 he was driving tractors and jeeps in support of the summer hay harvest. He attended Wesleyan University and earned a BA in French from UVM in 1972. That same year, he and his siblings started the nonprofit education organization that now owns and operates the Farm. Over the years he has held many positions here, from field hand, to milker, to assistant cheesemaker, and Special Projects Coordinator. He has served on the boards of several local non-profits. His wife, Kate, is one of the Shelburne representatives in the State legislature, and they have 4 daughters. Marshall’s favorite hobby is photography (especially of the farm!), and his favorite sports are snow and water skiing.
Sebastian Ventrone has been a photographer for 40 years, starting his journey with a Nikon FM with guidance from his father (also a part time professional photographer). For the last 12 years, Sebastian has shifted full over to the digital realm, loving the control and feedback of the modern SLRs. Sebastian's passion is landscape, macros, and the endless subjects of our natural and manmade world. Sebastian enjoys passing his knowledge to other photographers and sharing in their photography journey.
Shelburne Farms is a nonprofit organization educating for a sustainable future. Our campus is a 1,400-acre working farm, forest, and National Historic Landmark.
