Left Labor Project: Reception with Angela Davis & Harry Belafonte
Monday, December 10, 2012 from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM
New York, NY
A reception to benefit Left Labor Project, in honor of our December guest speakers, Angela Y. Davis and Harry Belafonte.
Over the years, Professor Davis has been active as a student, teacher, writer, scholar, and organizer. She is a living witness to the historical struggles of the contemporary era. Former California Governor Ronald Reagan once vowed that Prof. Davis would never again teach in the University of California system. Today she is Distinguished Professor Emerita at the University of California, Santa Cruz.
Award-winning Harry Belafonte is as well known for his social activism and pursuit of social justice as he is for his acting and musical talent. Over the decades, Mr. Belafonte has worked with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., President John F. Kennedy, and Nelson Mandela. He has served as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and is a recipient of the prestigious Kennedy Center Honors for excellence in the performing arts.
When & Where
Left Labor Project
Left Labor Project brings together socialists who are part of, or supporters of the labor movement in the New York City area. LLP works to build a mass movement of working people who share the goals of progressive movements across the country and the world.
Over the last three years, we have initiated successful rallies that re-united May Day with the labor movement in the USA, its birthplace. This fall, LLP is unfolding a new campaign in partnership with unions and community coalitions to "Create Jobs, Tax the 1%."
