Event Details

Sign up now for a unique opportunity to “Learn from Leadership.”   In this program, participants will meet in a small group with one of our region’s top health care executives.  Our host for this special event is Ann Madden Rice, FACHE, Chief Executive Officer of UC Davis Medical Center

Ann Madden Rice is chief executive officer of UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento.
She is a nationally recognized expert in the management of health-care institutions.
As CEO, Rice oversees more than 8,000 employees at the medical center, an acute-care
teaching hospital with 619 beds, an annual budget of more than $1.4 billion and medical
clinics in 10 California communities. The medical center serves 6 million residents in 33
counties encompassing 65,000 square miles of Northern and Central California.

Several independent, national organizations rank the medical center among the country’s
best in safety, quality and patient satisfaction. It offers nationally regarded expertise in
areas such as telehealth, rural medicine, trauma and emergency care, primary care and
cancer. It is the sole provider of a number of services for inland Northern California,
including level I adult and pediatric trauma centers, a full-service children’s hospital
and a National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center.

Rice is on the Executive Committee and chairs the Audit and Corporate Operations
Committee of the University Health System Consortium. She is secretary/treasurer of the
Hospital Council of Northern California. She was elected as a Metropolitan Hospitals
delegate of the American Hospital Association’s Regional Policy Board from District 9 and
is an active member of Sacramento region’s “Next Economy” advisory council. Rice also is
a past chair of the Sacramento Area Commerce and Trade Organization and serves on the
Executive Committee of the Sacramento Metro Chamber.

A thought leader in the health-care industry, Rice has received many honors and awards.
In 2012 and 2013, she was named among Becker’s Hospital Review “Women Hospital
and Health System Leaders to Know,” and in 2010, she received the Senior Level
Healthcare Executive Award from the Association of Healthcare Leaders. In 2005, Iowa
State University’s College of Business honored her with a Citation of Achievement alumni
award, and in 1994, Modern Healthcare recognized her as a leader to watch in their Up
& Comer Yearbook. She also received the Muncie Gold Merit Award from the Healthcare
Financial Management Association and member of the Dean’s Advisory Council at Iowa State University.

Prior to joining UC Davis Medical Center, Rice was chief financial officer and chief
operating officer for the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Other previous
positions include chief financial officer of the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames,
Iowa, and vice president of fiscal services for the Central Vermont Medical Center in
