We look forward to seeing you in Clearwater, FL, SEPTEMBER 21-24, 2014 for the fall meeting of the National Network of Statewide Afterschool Networks focused on Leading for Change: Expanding Learning Opportunities in a Changing Policy Landscape. Statewide afterschool networks are invited to meet together to focus on strengthening networks for policy development at all levels. Networks are invited to bring the network lead and one additional representative who is engaged in the day-to-day work of the network, likely a staff person.
The objectives of the meeting include:
- To consider the changing national and state policy landscape and strategies to educate policymakers about the impact of afterschool and summer learning;
- To explore leadership concepts and strategies to build an action plan, engage and guide partners and measure effectiveness;
- To support network leadership in the nuts-and-bolts work it takes to manage networks.

Eric Schwarz, Author, The Opportunity Equation: How Citizen Teachers Are Combating the Achievement Gap in America’s Schools
Eric Schwarz will share themes from his new book on the increasing opportunity gap and solutions found outside of schools to build skills and develop social networks that propel young people to success. Eric is the founding CEO of Citizen Schools and is currently developing a new social enterprise in higher education. He has written and spoken widely on education and opportunity.

Participants and Travel
Each network includes travel funding for the national network meetings in their grant budgets. Networks are responsible for the travel and lodging of their key participants. The closest airport to Clearwater is Tampa International Airport (TPA).
