Saturday, January 28, 2012 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM (EST)
What you'll do:
We're gonna lay out a whole darn book, yo! You'll learn to use the most powerful and flexible typesetting/formatting system in the world to make beautiful papers, reports, books, homework, contracts, shopping lists, labels, envelopes, junk mail, divorce papers, rocket ships, etc. Anything with words.
What you'll need:
A computer with TeXLive installed. TeXLive is free, open source software available for nearly every modern operating system at http://www.tug.org/texlive/ If you have any problems installing TeXLive, feel free to email or stop by OCD an hour before the class starts.
A plain text editor. This can be Notepad, TextEdit, or Emacs. TeXLive on Windows comes with one called TeXworks that has a lot of nice TeX-specific features built in.
What you'll learn:
Document structure, basic programming skills, and how to make beautiful papers! At the end of the day, you'll walk out of this class with a whole new skill set and a book ready to be printed up and bound (perhaps in the coming reprise of our Book'Shop?)
