This class is for companies that rely on independent contractors and those who are classified as 1099ers under the tax code. Misclassifying an employee as an independent contractor is one of the most expensive mistakes a business can make because of the penalties, fines and potential criminal liability. The IRS is now targeting companies who misclassify employees as independent contractors to collect unpaid federal, state and local tax withholdings, social security and Medicare contributions, worker’s compensation premiums, overtime, unemployment compensation and disability insurance.
