Laptops And Looms is a small get-together to talk about the world of Making, how it might intersect with the Internet Of Things and what implications that might have for Futures of Manufacturing and all manner of related things.
It runs from Wednesday the 17th of August to Friday the 19th. At Arkwight's Mill in Cromford, Derbyshire.
It's not a coincidence that we're holding it in the shell of the very first factory.
The primary purpose is to get interesting people who know something about this world together in one place and to get them talking. We don't have a particular line we want to push, we want to see what will emerge from the conversation.
We're planning on having talks in the mornings (if you've got a talk you're burning to give, please let us know) and walks around the local area on the Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. Friday afternoon we're thinking of having a cricket match.
We've paid for the venues, we'll organise all the activity but you'll have to find and organise accommodation for yourself. (There's a list of possibilities here, and, if you'd like to camp, we're going to reserve a field at a nice campsite.)
We will update you on details between now and then, this site is primarily to help us manage attendance and get everyone's emails etc in one place.
