January 10th, LadyDrinks January Edition comes with a new and unique networking proposition for ladies attending. POKER NIGHT!
Ellen Leikind of POKERprimaDIVAS will be teaching women how to play poker. Not so you can clean up in Las Vegas. It’s so you can be better at business. She is a former marketing executive for Fortune 500 companies. A decade ago she quit and began playing poker, a game she had learned as a child. She attended poker tournaments, and was distinctly aware that she was one of only five female players amid a sea of testosterone. Here was a great opportunity to network, but women were mostly excluded from the game. So in 2004, Leikind founded her company and has since hosted poker events for women at 40 corporations, including Pfizer, Hearst, and Alexandra and James.
Friday January 10th, you will learn strategy and negotiation strategies that work in the boardroom ---and the casino.
POKERprimaDIVAS is a company that provides corporate programs and entertainment to teach women how to play poker and use the principles acquired at the poker table to enhance their business skills. Here are some of the things you will learn.
1. Play the players, not just the game.
Get to know your competition and recognize when your competitive landscape has changed. Make competition about bringing out the best and sharpening your skills. Don’t make it personal; your competition is there to win, not to crush you.
2. Perception is everything.
It’s not all about the hand you were dealt. It’s also about the hand your competition thinks you were dealt. Make sure you are projecting the image you want by dressing and acting in a way that matches the image you are trying to project.
3. Play to win rather than to avoid losing.
Take charge and be fearless, but save your most aggressive moves for when you’re in the best position to get what you want. And don’t apologize for your success, look forward to your next big win.
In poker as in any business, you can count on a certain level of unpredictability. Shifting your focus to what you can control is the fastest way to get an edge and make the most out of the hand you are dealt.
I'm so excited for this!
