A Benefit for La Peña with Gail Dobson's Vocals for Kids!, Hector Lugo's Puerto-Rican Ensemble & Josh Jones' Latin Jazz Orchestra
Gail Dobson's class, "Vocals for Kids", would like to share with you their love of singing and performance. Come witness this and be prepared to be smilin' from ear to ear!!
The Puerto Rican Music Ensemble, formed by students and directed by Héctor Lugo, performs traditional and original pieces inspired by the popular and folkloric music of Puerto Rico: plena, bomba, seis, aguinaldo, danza, guaracha jíbara, and more.
The La Peña Latin Jazz Orchestra has been ongoing for the past 14 years under the direction of Bay Area drummer & percussionist, Josh Jones. The band explores all styles of Latin Jazz and Salsa with a focus on reading, interpretation, and improvisation. It's a great environment to hone your latin music skills, whether you're an instrumentalist, percussionist, or vocalist. The La Peña Latin Jazz Orchestra will be performing at this benefit for La Peña paying tribute to Latin Jazz greats such as Eddie Palmieri and Ray Barretto. Please come out and support this event that will help sustain La Peña Cultural Center, which is a vital part of our community.
All proceeds will support La Peña’s non-profit mission of promoting peace, social justice, and cultural understanding through the arts, education, and community action.
