ABOUT THE CONDUCTOR
Gary S. Greene, Esq., an attorney for more than 38 years, is an accomplished violinist and conductor. In January 2009, he founded the 75-member LA Lawyers Phil and 2 years later, the 100-member chorus, Legal Voices. They are composed of some of the Southland’s finest musicians who also happen to be attorneys, judges, law students and legal staff. Greene earned his BA summa cum laude from UCLA in 1971 and his JD from Loyola Law School in 1975. He is also the conductor of the Jr. Philharmonic, the acclaimed young people's symphony orchestra founded in 1937 by his late uncle, Dr. Ernst Katz. Maestro Greene was named the 2010 Person of the Year by the Metropolitan News-Enterprise for not only entertaining the legal community but also for having done much to unify it. And in 2012, he was presented with the prestigious Board of Governors Award from the Beverly Hills Bar Association.

When & Where
LA Lawyers Philharmonic & Legal Voices
Proclaimed by the City of Los Angeles as “LA’s Only Legal Orchestra,” the Los Angeles Lawyers Philharmonic held its first rehearsal on January 19, 2009 with 30 legal musicians
and performed its debut concert on January 30, 2009. Since then, the orchestra has grown to 75 members and performed more than 30 concerts, raising thousands of dollars to benefit those who cannot afford legal services and for other charitable purposes.
On April 30, 2011, Legal Voices held its first rehearsal. Three months later, the chorus debuted with the LA Lawyers Phil at Walt Disney Concert Hall. Consisting of more than 100 members, Legal Voices gave a triumphant performance of the finale of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, the Ode To Joy. On that date, the County of Los Angeles proclaimed the Los Angeles Lawyers Philharmonic and Legal Voices as “LA’s Only Legal Orchestra and Chorus.”
On July 21, 2012, the orchestra and chorus collaborated under the baton of Maestro Greene for a critically acclaimed performance of Carmina Burana to a sold-out Walt Disney Concert Hall.
These musical organizations are where lawyers, judges, law students and legal staff meet in harmony. The members include conservatory graduates, professional musicians and some hobbyists who are dusting off instruments they played in their youth. Others are harmonizing, using their voices that are more commonly heard in courtrooms than on concert stages. Nevertheless, the music prevails. The orchestra and chorus perform on a professional level in LA's major concert venues. They are a recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation. For more information, visit www.LALawyersPhil.org
