LA Hacks will be Southern California's biggest FREE collegiate hackathon, taking place on April 27-28.

TARGET AUDIENCE

We will accept teams of graduate and undegraduate students and alumni from UCLA, CalTech, Harvey Mudd (and students from the other Claremont colleges), USC, UC San Diego, and UC Irvine.

 

TRANSPORTATION

Transportation to/from the event and your college campus will be provided. Here is the schedule for transportation for each campus:

UCLA - Your bus will pick you up at 8:00am on Saturday (4/27) at Ackerman Turnaround by the bus pick-up area. You will be taken back to that location at the conclusion of LA Hacks at 6:00pm on Sunday (4/28) by a FREE car provided for by Lyft.

USC - Your bus will pick you up at 8:00am on Saturday (4/27) at the parking lot of Del Taco on 28th and Figueroa. You will be taken back to that location at the conclusion of LA Hacks at 6:00pm on Sunday (4/28) by a FREE car provided for by Lyft.

UC Irvine - Your bus will pick you up at 7:15am on Saturday (4/27) at the intersection of Campus Drive and Bridge Road. You will be taken back to that location at the conclusion of LA Hacks at 6:00pm on Sunday (4/28)

UC San Diego - Your bus will pick you up at 6:30am on Saturday (4/27) at the intersection of Gilman Drive and Myers Drive. You will be taken back to that location at the conclusion of LA Hacks at 6:00pm on Sunday (4/28)

Harvey Mudd - Your bus will pick you up at 6:45am on Saturday (4/27) at 301 Platt Blvd. You will be taken back to that location at the conclusion of LA Hacks at 6:00pm on Sunday (4/28)

Caltech - Your bus will pick you up at 7:45am on Saturday (4/27) at the corner of South Hill Ave and San Pasqual Street. You will be taken back to that location at the conclusion of LA Hacks at 6:00pm on Sunday (4/28)


THE COMPETITION

Teams will participate in a 24-hour-long hackathon to create products that address a theme that will be announced closer to the event. At the end of those 24 hours, teams will present and demo their concepts to a panel of judges and winners will be chosen! There will be no limitations on technology that can be used during the competition, and the theme will be general enough where you will not be restricted in what you can create!

 

SCHEDULE

Saturday (April 27th):

9:00am - Competitors start arriving (pick-up information for each campus for our free transportation provided on Monday, April 22nd)

9:30am to 10:30am - Registration and breakfast

10:30am - Keynote speaker and intros to our sponsors

11:15am - Hackers can present ideas and those haven't formed teams yet can now

12:00pm - Lunch is served

1:00pm - Let the hacking begin!

2:00pm to 4:00pm - API breakout session for more info, troubleshooting, etc.

Sunday (April 28th):

1:00pm - Hacking ends, begin submitting for judging!

1:30pm - Qualifying juding round, finalists selected

3:00pm - Finalists present

5:00pm - Winners chosen and awards given out

6:00pm - Free buses leave to take you back to your respective campuses

Hadar Dor

Hadar Dor is the founder and lead organizer of LA Hacks. He studies Cognitive Science with a Specialization in Computing at UCLA, and spent last year on leave working at Quixey as a Product Manager under the mentorship of their CEO. Learn more at www.HadarDor.com

Alvin Hsia is the Director of Sponsorships for LA Hacks. He studies Business Economics with a Specialization in Computing at UCLA, and is also the Co-Founder and CEO of SceneShot.
