FULL WORKSHOP SCHEDULE:

--LOCATION--
The Build Shop, LLC
201 N Westmoreland Ave, Unit 128
Los Angeles, CA 90004

--FRIDAY, July 5 (BALLET & LYRICAL)--

6:15-6:45p - Sign-in and On-Site Registration

6:45-7:45p - "Ballet for Fusion"

Use ballet to improve your blues dancing.

Welcome to the wonderful world of ballet! Ballet has much to teach us about how to move our bodies generally, whether solo or in partnership. We’ll learn exercises to practice everything from balance and turns to grounding and ‘gush’ and in the process gain new awareness of body and movement.

8:00-9:00p - "Lyrical Connection"

What do you do when the beat drops out of a song for a moment? Or what about those songs that don’t have a back beat? Or maybe the song does have a beat, but that violin over the top of it is what really moves you? Well you dance to that awesome melody, of course. In the world of lyrical dancing, we’ll explore some connection and movement techniques to allow you to really dance to that haunting melody.

9:00p-12:00a - LA Fusion Dance

A full lineup of some of the best fusion DJ's Los Angeles and Southern California have to offer will keep this party going late into the night!

--SATURDAY, July 6  (OFF-AXIS & LIFTS) --

11:45-12:45p - Lunch with the Instructors @ LA Rose Cafe
(http://larosecafehollywood.com/)
4749 Fountain Ave
Hollywood, CA 90029

Come sit down, have a bite, and get to know Luke, Nicole, MrMoo and your fellow dancers in person before the workshop.

1:15p-2:15p - "Off-Axis & Lift Fundamentals"

Learn the critical building blocks necessary to safely execute the off-axis moves and lifts we will be learning throughout the day.

2:30p-3:30p - "Axis Games"

Got those upright spins down? Ready to play with them? This class will take the idea of in place, single axis turns and make them even cooler by adding weight sharing elements. We’ll steal colgadas and volcadas from tango and pull them into all our cool blues and fusion shapes to play with some moves that will knock your partner off their feet.

4:00-5:00p - "Build A Lift Workshop"

Learn how to effortlessly create lifts from your regular dancing.

In this class we’ll give you the tools to create great lifts on the fly. We’ll start with safe basing and flying techniques, give you a few ground rules to construct all the lifts you could want, then learn how to dance in and out of them to create seamless movement.

5:15-6:15p - "Swoop There It Is"

 Swoops, slides and off-axis spins

Remember when you were a kid and you were on a swing set, coming down from the peak of a swing? Want to add that feeling to your dance? In this class we’ll learn how to safely add swoopyness into your dance through a variety of cool tricks that will leave your partner wanting more.

About the Instructors:

Nicole Trissell (Mountain View, CA)

Nicole has been a dancer her whole life. Ballet, west coast swing, lindy hop and tango are all dances that have driven her need for expression through movement. But when she discovered blues and blues fusion 4 years ago, it was love at first dance. This unique dance style that combined creativity, freedom of movement, and a strong dance connection with her partner inspired her in a way no other dance had before. After a few years, she could not withstand the draw of the dance any longer and started her life as a vagabonding dance instructor.

Since then, Nicole has become a prominent dancer, DJ, instructor, and organizer in the national blues and fusion scenes.

Nicole’s love and passion for expression through dance propels her through life. She brings that same zeal to her students through challenging but inspiring classes that encourage her students to learn, play, and grow as dancers and as people.

Luke Weismann (Denver, CO)

Luke started dancing in 1996 and hasn’t been more than 100 yards from his dance shoes since.

There are three things that define Luke’s approach to teaching:

1) Creativity can be taught most easily in three steps – Imitate, Assimilate, Create.

2) As a dancer, your main goal is to have the person you’re dancing with now want to dance with you again in the future.

3) Everything physical that you have ever done, even the way that you walk informs how you dance and has prepared you for your next class.

Luke uses his student’s past experience to explain class concepts so we can learn material quickly and fun.

MrMoo (Milo Walker-Hayden - Portland, OR)

Born and raised in Portland, OR. MrMoo resides in it's forested hills, creating beats and whompy goodness deep from within his sound dungeon. Every MrMoo show is live audio alchemy, performed on the spot with violin, a controller, and a hefty beat.
