Event Details

Annually the African American Research Library and Cultural Center hosts a Kwanzaa celebration; sponsored by Friends of the Library. This year the Sankofa's Child Inc (Nzingah Oniwosan) will facilitate the production and execution of the program. The theme for the program is Ubuntu: I am because we are. The goal of the program is to deliver workshops and panels that tie into the 7 principals of Kwanzaa (Ngozo Saba), in addition to performances, and a main lecture. The aim of this year's program is "Connecting People, Families, and Communities."

Sankofa's Child Inc

 

Sankofa's Child Inc is cultural arts company that offers cultural arts services in a variety of disciplines including but not limited to visual arts, writing, spoken word, dance, and theater. Since its inception in 2004 Sankofa's Child Inc has been servicing the tri-county area (Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami Dade County) and to date has touched the lives over 20,000 children and 1,000 teachers through professional development workshops.  Their motto is “Connecting our Heritage to our Future…through the Arts.” The mission is not to only expose children and adults to the arts but to also use the arts a teaching tool so that children, teachers, and adults can make connections to art, science, math, and social studies in unique and profound new ways.
