"(Philip) Glass has composed prolifically and collaborated with Leonard Cohen, Doris Lessing, Ravi Shankar, David Bowie, Brian Eno and Patti Smith - to mention only a handful. His film scores include Kundun, for which he received his first Academy Award nomination, The Fog of War and Notes on a Scandal. Pruit Igoe from Koyaanisqatsi also features on Grand Theft Auto IV. Testimony to his significance in the US's cultural landscape, he's even had a South Park cameo.
Yet despite the diversity and calibre of Glass' many ''accomplices'', he says he's ''never worked with anyone with the clarity and uniqueness [of Reggio's] vision''.
''I could say we've spent 36 years talking to each other but really Godfrey has spent 36 years talking to me. He reads widely, he thinks deeply, he engages me in conversations but I'm basically listening and I've never had any problem accepting his ideas because I always felt them intuitively to be correct.''
