The Kosmic Krylon Carnival is on the occasion of the 10–year anniversary of Kenny’s Kosmic Krylon Garage, which features his whimsical spray-painted murals that greet the Museum's visitors. Kenny Scharf gained prominence in New York City's East Village in the 1980s for his ambitious, cartoon-like installations and paintings. His practice exists in the realm where pop culture meets science fiction, and his imagery celebrates everything from the Jetsons and the Flintstones to one-eyed creatures, mischievous monsters, and donuts in space.
Arts advocate, consultant, public servant, and former PMCA board member Merry Norris introduced Kenny to the museum in 2004. Merry has dedicated her career to the cultural and civic life of Los Angeles, championing public art awareness and design excellence through her role in numerous major activities, including being instrumental in the founding of the PMCA as well as MOCA (Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles).
Proceeds from the Carnival benefit the PMCA’s mission to present the breadth of California art and design through exhibitions that explore the cultural dynamics and influences that are unique to California.
