Kids and computers often go hand in hand. Online skills are invaluable in modern education but this boon to the learning experience can be a wolf in sheep’s clothing. It's impossible to watch your child's every online move, so how can you keep them safe?
The next event of the Social Media Club of Southwest Florida, offered just ahead of the back to school hustle and bustle, will provide this essential information. Sergeant Stephanie Eller, of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, will offer an important presentation created by the Florida Attorney General. She will also discuss her personal experience as a detective dealing with Southwest Florida crimes involving online predators, sexting and cyberbullying.
Also presenting will be Chrissie Scelsi, a steering committee member and entertainment lawyer in Port Charlotte. Chrissie will broach virtual worlds and social games for children and the privacy issues they present. Parents will learn about the mechanisms that online services employ to protect users and the laws that govern online privacy. She will also discuss issues that have arisen as a result of the exchange of goods online, treated as gambling in some states.
AFTER THE MEETING... Let's continue the conversation at Arizona Pizza, 8700 Gladiolus Drive, Fort Myers, FL 33919. The restaurant is located just east of the library at the corner of Gladiolus Drive and Winkler Road.
When & Where
The Social Media Club of Southwest Florida
The Social Media Club of Southwest Florida was formed to bring together professionals from across a variety of disciplines to share information and educate each other about the benefits of social media in our personal practices, businesses, charitable endeavors and lives. We welcome interested people from all walks of life and professions. The only requirement is an interest or passion for the use of social media.
Our organization has been established so that entry and membership into our local club can be as easy and affordable as possible. There are no dues payable to the local chapter. Our regular events are paid for through fees specific to that event and sponsorships.
Our local chapter here in Southwest Florida is affiliated with the national Social Media Club, a rapidly growing, global professional association with chapters such as ours around the U.S. and around the world. We also network closely with other chapters in Florida in effort to share the best practices and ideas and to build business relationships across the state.
