There are so many of us who are blessed to know Carl and call him brother, husband, Chef, or friend. His network of friends and family runs deep in South Louisiana and well beyond, and is testament to his kind and welcoming personality and generosity of spirit.
On April Fools' Day 2014 he received the devastating news that the stomach pain he'd been dealing with was not, in fact, an ulcer or heartburn, but something much more insidious. Carl's doctor found a large tumor in his stomach that had already spread to his esophagus and surrounding lymph nodes.
As he and his family gear up for the battle of his life, his wife Alix describes their mindset and preparation for chemo, radiation, and radical surgery in comparison to something that many of us in the Gulf region can relate to: getting ready for a hurricane.
Our intent is to help them "weather the storm" as best as they can. Facing not only the fight of his life, but the expenses of treatment and a forced hiatus from the restaurant kitchen that he loves so dearly, this fundraising effort will help them cover the cost of the excellent care he is receiving and keep the home fires burning. Any unused proceeds will be donated to cancer research and patient support programs.
Please join us for a special evening on June 28th, when the culinary family of chefs and restauranteurs in New Orleans will be joining forces to Kick Cancer in the Gut. There will be an extensive offering from top notch chefs from around New Orleans, unlimited libations, silent auction, and live music. This is an event that food lovers won't want to miss. All proceeds will help our dear friend Carl get through this troubling time, and fight his way back into the kitchen!
