Keep Calm / Hack Math
Monday, April 28, 2014 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM (CDT)
San Francisco, California
London, United Kingdom
So we're giving it one! Keep Calm / Hack Math is a two-hour mini-hackathon for creative educators and curious learners to re-imagine traditional math word problems.
Here's how it works:
1. Teachers bring traditional math word problems
2. We challenge our participants to team up and bring them to life
3. We share the results with the world here!
What's an example of a reimagined math word problem?
5:00 - 5:10 Teachers "pitch" the word problems they want to hack
5:10 - 5:30 Teams form - begin brainstorming and storyboarding
5:30 - 6:45 Making / filming / editing (our Pros will provide support)
6:45 - 7:00 Screening of re-imagined word problems (followed by dinner!)
We love experimenting with media, technique and narrative. The word problems chosen each hackathon are simply a springboard for the creative expression of participants. Join us!
What to bring:
@Teachers: bring your laptop and a word problem you want to hack
(bonus: we will have students in the room to help design and test the re-imagined problems - so feel free to invite a couple of your own students. They can register using the "Learner" registration option above.)
@Makers and @Students: bring your creativity!
