Peter Handke’s celebrated play, Kaspar, explores the tension between individual identity and that which is imposed by society. Director Rafael Lopez-Barrantes has interpolated modern phrases to additionally incorporate the impact of modern media. The play is based on the real life of Kaspar Hauser, who ventured into Nuremberg in 1814 able to speak only one sentence after years of forced seclusion. The production employs rhythmic movement and sound to further represent the overwhelming torrent of information that Hauser had to absorb to reenter the world.
