The brothers of the Alpha Chapter of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity invite you to participate in our upcoming Military Heroes 5k, benefiting the Kappa Sigma Military Heroes Campaign. The race will take place on Saturday, November 2nd at 10am and is open to runners, joggers, and walkers of all ages.
About Military Heroes
Kappa Sigma's Military Heroes Campaign was designed to honor and aid the thousands of wounded military veterans returning from active duty. The Military Heroes Campaign provides charitable donations to organizations such as the Fisher House and other entities. The Fisher House Foundation is a segment of the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund that provides free housing to wounded veterans and their families throughout the duration of rehabilitation.
Packet pick-up will be open from 8:30am to 9:30am on race day on McDonough Field. You must be present at packet pick-up to pick up your race bib. If you do not pick up your bib, your race will not be timed and your time will not count towards your team.
Free parking will be available all day at the Peavine parking deck, located on Eagle Row. To get to McDonough field from the parking deck, walk between the tennis courts (just south of the fraternity houses) and the Woodruff PE Center until you arrive at the field.
Every runner, jogger, and walker who registers by October 20th will receive a tank with their event registration fee. If you do not wish to participate in the event, you may still purchase a tank for $10 which can be picked up on race day.
Teams, Scoring, and Prizes
If you wish to participate as a team, you will indicate the team with which you would like to participate during your race registration. There will be divisions for Greek teams, Res Life teams, other Emory organizations, and non-Emory teams. Teams will score points based on the top 4 finishes of their participants. For example, if your team had 6 members who finish 2nd, 6th, 14th, 19th, 29th, and 56th, you would have scored 2+6+14+19 or 41 points. The lowest scoring team in each division as well as the top 3 overall male and female finishers will win prizes.
In the week leading up to the event, you should expect to receive several e-mails from the race director with last minute information and weather updates. Should the weather create an environment that is unsafe for race staff or participants, the race director reserves the right to cancel the event. Examples of weather that may create such a hazard include, but are not limited to, thunderstorms, tornados, extreme heat, etc. In the event of such weather, the race director will cancel the race immediately after determining that conditions are or will become unsafe. If the race must be canceled, all registered participants will receive the event t-shirt and will have the option to participate in next year's race free of charge.
