Anders Fogh Rasmussen, Secretary General, NATO; Former Primer Minister, Denmark
Political, economic and security ties have long united Europe and the United States; NATO is an essential element of that relationship. Beyond the Euro-Atlantic area, NATO is working with partners across the globe, including in the Asia-Pacific, to build common security and support a stable, rules-based international order. NATO says the stability of our international system cannot be taken for granted and cites Russia's recent aggression against Ukraine as blatant disregard for the international rulebook. NATO's Secretary General, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, will put forward some ideas on how an outward-looking NATO can safeguard the order on which security and prosperity depend. Secretary General Rasmussen was born in Denmark and served as that country’s prime minister from 2001 until April 2009, when he was designated the next NATO secretary general.
