Junk presents "The Bell" -

When the players of Junk take the stage, a simple bell on a stool comes with them. Simple, yes, but in its simplicity lies its power. At any time, any of the players on stage can ring the bell, forcing the player who just spoke to do or say something different, thus spiraling the scene or story into new, unexpected directions. The audience, too, is invited to ring the bell if they feel so inclined. Using this magical tool, Junk then weaves together a show of scenic vignettes built around audience suggestions, culminating in a a final mini-longform narrative that may start in one genre, and end in another. Who knows where the bell may take us?

Junk features veteran improvisors from Austin's Hideout Theatre (including founder Sean Hill) whose core work follows the teachings of Keith Johnstone. Junk shows emphasize story, character, relationship, with a strong nod to checking in with the audience.  Junk is alson the only group in Austin who routinely play Johnstone's formats in their shows, from "More or Less" to "Gorilla Theatre".

Mike Weiss, Jessica Weiss

Grandma Hates Technology

New York, NY/South Brunswick, NJ

Grandma Hates Technology is kind of like TJ and Dave, if TJ was a chubby, balding middle-aged man and Dave was a 13 year-old girl.

What makes GHT unique is that their parent-child relationship creates an intimacy on stage that few improv duos possess. Mike & Jessica Weiss have known each other and lived together every day since Jessica was born. Their shared experiences and reference points translate on stage to a kind of mental short-hand that is unheard of anywhere else in improvland.

Not to be missed!
