Volunteer for JA BizTown
After an in-school curriculum taught by the teacher, students come to JA BizTown to become "adults" for one day through applied hands-on learning. At JA BizTown, the students are in charge! Students work in a life sized interactive town that is designed to reflect the Maryland economy with businesses, landscape and architecture. In front of City Hall, the mayor gives a speech reminding citizens of the laws in JA BizTown, and encouraging everyone to exercise their civic duty by voting. Students check their business break schedule to see when they should take their lunch break, visit the bank to deposit their paycheck and to become a consumer. The students leave JA BizTown feeling personally successful after spending the day working hard at JA BizTown. They also leave with a greater understanding of the value of a dollar, the importance of teamwork, and how to be a contributing citizen. The time spent at JA BizTown is only one day, but the impact is a lifetime.
