6pm-midnight - The Chelsea Music Festival @ The Rubin Museum of Art
As part of its 2012 summer season, the Chelsea Music Festival has been invited to curate the K2 lounge at RMA featuring a wide variety of events flavored with this year’s French-Japanese theme. Highlights include the DCD Collective, a 7pm “Carte Blanche” concert by Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation violinist Fanny Clamagirand entitled “Violin Daybreak” and a 10pm Late night “Rêverie-mix” spanning genres from Renaissance to Hip-Hop with vocalists, instrumental ensemble, koto, live electronics, and rhythm section.
7:00pm - Debussy VI: Violin Daybreak
The annual “Carte Blanche” Concert to the Artist-in-Residence is led by violinist and Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation artist Fanny Clamagirand. She will lead us in a program featuring revolutionary violin perspectives from France and Japan, ending with the extraordinary Chausson Concerto for violin, piano, and string quartet. She is joined by several special guests including violinists Augustin Hadelich, Emilie-Anne Gendron, Liana Gourdjia and Alex Shiozaki, pianists Hugues Leclere and Katsura Tanikawa, as well as cellist Marc Coppey and violist Derek Mosloff.
10pm - Debussy VII: Reverie-mix
Building on last year's "Liszt Remix" success, Doug Balliett takes vocal music from the Renaissance and 20th century France and Japan and "remixes" it using contemporary pop and hip-hop language. Featuring instrumentalists and singers from the Chelsea Music Festival, the late night Remix program examines and re-imagines gems from the French and Japanese literature. Music from the Troubadours, Dufay, Machaut, Debussy, Takemitsu, and many more, performed with singers, instrumental ensemble, koto, live electronics, and rhythm section. A laid back evening with music, drinks, and storytelling, all designed to leave you grooving to the French Japanese Remix. This musical evening will span centuries and bend genres, not to be missed.
