Also filmmaker Bill Megalos will describe what it takes to be a global filmmaker and travel the developing world while eking out a living through a combination of making films for NGOs, teaching filmmaking and shooting documentaries.
Also filmmaker Jennifer Lee will show a couple clips and talk about the story behind the story of her award winning Documentary, “Feminist: Stories from Women’s Liberation.”
Also, Steve Kanter will take a "critical" look at the new features in Avid Media Composer 7. What works, what perhaps does not, what is missing and what perhaps needs improvement.

If they can't solve your problem or answer your question, then you go home with a problem, but you still got out of the house, so that's not a bad thing.

About Steve Kanter
Steve Kanter is a freelance editor who has cut feature films, documentaries and network television on both Avid and Final Cut systems for nearly 20 years. As an MPEG Editor and Assistant, he is expert with multicamera editing, script-based editing (i.e. ScriptSync), and project sharing and media management on shows like Blind Date and Party Down.
An Avid Certified Instructor and Final Cut Studio Master Trainer, Steve also works as a freelance consultant and onsite trainer for post-productions facilities, studios and networks such as NBC/Universal, Warner Bros., ABC, CBS, FOX, and HBO. He is a qualified Unity ISIS and Avid Interplay Administrator and has worked for Avid providing workflow design, training and support since 2011.
In 2012 he joined the faculty at UCLA as a Visiting Professor for the School of Theater, Film and Television, and created a definitive Avid 6 Core Training product for Ripple Training, which can be found atwww.editdog.com/Training.

About Sean Safreed
Sean Safreed is co-founder of Red Giant Software, and a 16-year veteran of the computer graphics industry. The company started with 2 products and has since grown to offer more than 50 products with a team that spans the United States, and Canada.
Before founding Red Giant in 2002, he worked on the Apple's QuickTime team. At Silicon Graphics' he lead efforts to add innovative video features to the companies hardware systems. At Puffin Designs, he worked as a product manager on Commotion, a ground-breaking video paint application that originated at Industrial Light and Magic.

9:00PM - 9:30PM - Global Filmmaker - Bill Megalos
Bill Megalos will describe what it takes to be a Global Filmmaker and travel the developing world while eking out a living through a combination of making films for NGOs, teaching filmmaking and shooting documentaries. You can read about a recent project here

About Bill Megalos
Since 1976, he has been involved in all aspects of film and television production, from producing the comedy feature "Mutants in Paradise" to directing music videos. He apprenticed with renowned Greek director Theo Angelopoulos on his film “O Megalexandros” (“Alexander the Great”) which won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival in 1980. Megalos was cameraman on numerous documentaries, including "Aretha," "Paris is Burning," and the Emmy Award-winning "W. Eugene Smith" with Peter Riegert for American Masters, "A Night in Havana-Dizzy Gillespie in Cuba," the PBS series "Quest for the Killers" and "Legendary Trails," as well as the Academy Award-winning "Down and Out in America," directed by Lee Grant.
Megalos' work as a director ranges from commercials and music videos to dramatic films. His biography of Jack Benny for HBO was awarded the Cine Golden Eagle Award. His series of distinctive network promos for CBS ran throughout the year of 1996. As a director or cameraman, Megalos filmed over 30 full-length documentaries for PBS, BBC and Channel 4 (UK) in more than 20 countries. His series of family planning mini-dramas in Bengali won the World Health Organization's Global Award for Media Excellence in Beijing in 1985. He produced and directed the ground-breaking half-hour infomercial that funded Jerry Brown's 1992 Presidential campaign. In 2004 he was a director on the DVD for the extended edition of “Return of the King,” the final Lord of the Rings film. For the past ten years, he has been making social documentaries and working as a media consultant for the Asian Development Bank, a large N.G.O. whose aim is the reduction and elimination of poverty in Asia. He spent two years traveling with Muhammad Yunus, 2006 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, for a feature documentary on microfinance, “To Catch A Dollar,” which premiered at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival.

9:35PM - 9:55PM - “Feminist: Stories from Women’s Liberation” - Jennifer Lee
“Feminist: Stories from Women’s Liberation” is a feature documentary about the events of the women’s liberation movement as told by the feminists from that time. It covers the years 1963 through 1970. It is told from my point of view as a feminist and a mother who wants my daughter to be proud of the word “feminist.” The film won “Best of the Festival” for documentary at the Los Angeles Women’s International Film Festival. It also screened by invitation in Islamabad, Pakistan at three universities.
About Jennifer Lee
Jennifer Lee is an entertainment professional, a feminist, a writer, and a filmmaker. She works towards developing a stronger female narrative in American culture through media and politics.
With an extensive background in the feature film industry, she has held the title of producer, editor, visual effects compositor, and documentary filmmaker. She began her career at Lucasfilm’s Industrial Light and Magic. Her many credits include, "Ghost," "Back To The Future 2," "Hook," "Forrest Gump," "The Ring," "Pirates Of The Caribbean 2," "Beowulf."
Jennifer’s recently completed documentary “Feminist: Stories From Women’s Liberation,” won “Best of the Festival” for documentary at the Los Angeles Women’s International Film Festival. It is a film exploring the significance of the second wave of the women’s liberation movement on our lives. As a mother Jennifer understands how important it is for girls to understand the significance of the feminist revolution and its affect on women’s lives. The film includes interviews with NOW founder Betty Friedan, authors and activists Gloria Steinem, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, Frances M. Beal, Robin Morgan, Sonia Pressman Fuentes, Betita Martinez, and many other feminists.
As a prominent speaker, Jennifer works to connect the importance of history as women along with seeing women as leaders. Speaking engagements include the Berkshire Conference on Women’s History, Hampshire College, The Women, Action and Media National Conference, UCLA, and the International Islamic University in Islamabad, Pakistan.
Her father was a New York City police officer and her mother was a social worker. She is originally from Staten Island, New York and moved to Atlanta, Georgia when she was a child. During her high school years she lived in the Atlanta Friends Meeting House (Quaker). She has identified as a feminist since she was about nine years old.
