DESCRIPTION

Come hear Sandra Beck speak on the project approach UCSF has employed for their new Mission Hall: Global Health & Clinical Sciences Building. This highly visible 265,000 GSF, seven story Academic building is currently under construction on their Mission Bay campus at the corner of 3rd &16th Streets.

Sandra’s presentation will focus on how and why UCSF chose design-build delivery; how performance specifications were utilized as bridging documents; how the mechanics of the UCSF “best value” selection process applied to this project; how competition was built into the process; and how UCSF utilizes principles of Lean Construction in their projects. Finally, her presentation will identify the future UCSF projects that are in the planning cycle and the timing for their delivery. Supporting Sandra as speakers will be John Duvivier from Gensler (bridging architect), Sam Nunes from WRNS (final architect), and Gary Taylor from Rudolph & Sletten (General Contractor).

Sandra Beck, AIA, LEED AP, is a 30+ year industry veteran who graduated from Kent State with a BS in Architecture in 1980. Sandra has held a number of industry positions, the most recent at the University of CA- San Francisco where she is the Associate Director of capital projects at their Mission Bay campus. She currently is responsible for 25 capital projects on the campus. Recent projects under Sandra’s leadership include the 232,000 GSF Smith Cardiovascular Research Building; the Preliminary Utility Plant expansion; and Helen Diller Cancer Research Building.
